Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Izumo no Okuni

Izumo no Okuni, born in 1572, was a pioneering Japanese entertainer and miko, renowned for her role in the creation of kabuki theatre. Originating from near Izumo Province, she initially served as a shrine maiden at the Izumo Grand Shrine, where she honed her artistic talents.

Her innovative performances began along the dry riverbed of the Kamo River in Kyoto, captivating audiences with her unique blend of singing and dancing. This new theatrical style, which would come to be known as kabuki, quickly gained immense popularity, particularly for its all-female cast, comprised largely of lower-class women whom Okuni recruited to join her troupe.

Despite the limited details available about her life, it is clear that Okuni's contributions to the arts were significant. She continued to perform with her theatrical group until her retirement, which is believed to have occurred around 1610. Following her departure from the stage, she seemingly vanished from the public eye, with her death estimated to have occurred around 1613.
