Izzeldin Abuelaish

Izzeldin Abuelaish, born on February third, nineteen fifty-five, is a distinguished Canadian-Palestinian physician, author, and university educator. His early life in Gaza shaped his commitment to medicine and humanitarian efforts, leading him to work in an Israeli hospital where he became a symbol of hope for Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation.

Tragedy struck during the Gaza War in January two thousand nine when an Israeli tank shell struck his home, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of his three daughters and a niece. In a poignant moment that resonated globally, he reported their deaths live on air, shedding light on the human cost of conflict.

Following this devastating event, Abuelaish relocated to Canada, where he was welcomed by the University of Toronto. His experiences inspired him to pen a memoir titled 'I Shall Not Hate: A Gaza Doctor's Journey on the Road to Peace and Human Dignity,' published in two thousand eleven, which reflects his journey towards healing and reconciliation.

Now residing in Toronto with his surviving children, Abuelaish continues to advocate for peace and understanding, using his voice to promote dialogue and compassion amidst ongoing strife.
