Jack Swigert

John Leonard Swigert Jr., born on August 30, 1931, was a multifaceted American known for his remarkable contributions as an astronaut, military officer, and politician. His journey into the annals of history began when he joined NASA in 1966, where he would later serve as the command module pilot for the iconic Apollo 13 mission in April 1970. This mission, although it did not culminate in a Moon landing, saw Swigert and his fellow astronauts travel farther from Earth than any before them, showcasing their resilience and ingenuity in the face of adversity.

Before his illustrious career at NASA, Swigert honed his skills as a civilian test pilot and served as a fighter pilot in the Air National Guard.
