His career in Formula One spanned a decade, from nineteen sixty-seven to nineteen seventy-seven, during which he showcased his talent with teams such as Lotus, BRM, McLaren, and Shadow.

In addition to his Formula One endeavors, Oliver made a significant mark in endurance racing. He triumphed at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in nineteen sixty-nine, the 12 Hours of Sebring in the same year, and the 24 Hours of Daytona in nineteen seventy-one, all while driving for J.W. Automotive. His remarkable achievements in endurance racing also earned him the distinction of being the second individual to complete the informal Triple Crown.

Before his foray into Formula One, Oliver secured several class victories in the British Saloon Car Championship between nineteen sixty-six and nineteen sixty-eight. He participated in fifty-two Formula One Grands Prix, achieving notable podium finishes at the Mexican Grand Prix in nineteen sixty-eight and the Canadian Grand Prix in nineteen seventy-three. In nineteen seventy-four, he also clinched the Canadian-American Challenge Cup.
