Jadav Payeng

Jadav Payeng, born on October thirty-first, nineteen fifty-nine, is a renowned ecologist and environmental activist hailing from the indigenous Mising tribe of Assam, India. He is affectionately known as the Forest Man of India, a title that reflects his lifelong dedication to reforestation and environmental conservation.

Over several decades, Payeng has transformed a barren sandbar of the Brahmaputra River into a thriving forest reserve. This remarkable achievement, known as the Molai forest, spans approximately one thousand three hundred sixty acres and is located near Kokilamukh in Jorhat, Assam. His tireless efforts have not only revitalized the local ecosystem but have also provided a habitat for numerous species of flora and fauna.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to environmentalism, Jadav Payeng was awarded the Padma Shri in two thousand fifteen, one of India's highest civilian honors.
