Jake Muzzin, born on February twenty-first, nineteen eighty-nine, is a distinguished Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He currently serves in the Player Development department for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). Muzzin's impressive career spanned twelve seasons in the NHL, where he played for both the Los Angeles Kings and the Maple Leafs.
Initially drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the two thousand seven NHL entry draft, Muzzin returned to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) as an overage player after going unsigned. During his time there, he showcased his leadership skills as team captain and earned the Max Kaminsky Trophy, awarded to the top defenceman in the OHL.
In two thousand ten, Muzzin signed as a free agent with the Kings, where he achieved significant success, including winning the Stanley Cup in two thousand fourteen. His journey continued when he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs during the two thousand eighteen–nineteen season, where he played for parts of five seasons. Unfortunately, a spinal injury in two thousand twenty-two led to his placement on long-term injured reserve.
In two thousand twenty-three, Muzzin transitioned to the Maple Leafs' front office as a professional scout. On the international stage, he proudly represented Canada at the two thousand fifteen IIHF World Championship and the two thousand sixteen World Cup of Hockey, contributing to his team's gold medal victories in both tournaments.
