Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Jalal al-Din Mangburni

Jalal al-Din Mangburni, also known as Jalal al-Din Khwarazmshah, was the last ruler of the Anushtegin dynasty and the Khwarazmian Empire. Born in 1199, he was the eldest son of Ala ad-Din Muhammad II and grew up in Gurganj, the prosperous capital of his homeland. Despite his noble lineage, Jalal al-Din faced challenges to his succession from a younger brother, supported by the influential Queen Mother, Terken Khatun.

Following the devastating Mongol conquest that led to his father's demise, Jalal al-Din emerged as a leader, gaining the loyalty of many Khwarazmian loyalists. He initially moved to Gurganj but soon had to flee eastward due to Terken Khatun's opposition. In Ghazni, he successfully gathered a formidable army and achieved a significant victory against Shigi Qutuqu at the Battle of Parwan.

However, his fortunes changed when he faced Genghis Khan at the Battle of the Indus, resulting in a crushing defeat that forced him to retreat. As a warlord, Jalal al-Din established several short-lived states in the Punjab from the years 1222 to 1224, and later in northwest Iran and Georgia after 1225. Despite his military prowess, he struggled with political challenges and revolts, ultimately leading to his downfall.

Jalal al-Din's life came to a tragic end on August fifteenth, 1231. His army, however, continued to operate as the mercenary Khwarazmiyya, instilling fear in the Levant until their final defeat in the year 1246.
