Jalil Mammadguluzadeh

Jalil Huseyngulu oghlu Mammadguluzadeh, born on February 10, 1869, was a prominent Azerbaijani writer, playwright, and opinion journalist. Renowned for his sharp wit and keen observations, he emerged as a leading satirist in the early twentieth century, profoundly influencing literary culture in the Middle East and Central Asia.

As the founder of the satirical magazine Molla Nasraddin, Mammadguluzadeh played a pivotal role in shaping the genre of satire in the region. His work not only entertained but also provoked thought and discussion on social issues, making him a significant figure in Azerbaijani literature.

Beyond his literary contributions, Mammadguluzadeh is celebrated as one of the first women's rights activists in Azerbaijan and the broader Middle East.
