Jam Master Jay

Jason William Mizell, known to the world as Jam Master Jay, was born on January 21, 1965. He emerged as a pivotal figure in the music industry, particularly as the DJ for the groundbreaking hip hop group Run-DMC. This influential ensemble played a crucial role in bringing hip hop into the mainstream during the 1980s, forever changing the landscape of music.

As a talented disc jockey, rapper, beatboxer, and record producer, Jam Master Jay's contributions to the genre were immense. His innovative techniques and unique sound helped define the essence of hip hop, making him a revered figure among fans and fellow musicians alike.

Tragically, Mizell's life was cut short when he was murdered in his recording studio in Queens on October 30, 2002. The circumstances surrounding his death remained a mystery for many years, casting a shadow over his legacy. However, in February 2024, justice was served when two men, Ronald Washington and his godson Karl Jordan Jr., were convicted for the drug-related murder, while a third individual, Jay Bryant, is set to face trial in 2026.
