James Heilman

James M. Heilman, a distinguished Canadian emergency physician, has made significant contributions to both medicine and the digital world. Born in 1979, he has dedicated his career to improving health-related content on Wikipedia, advocating for clinicians to share their expertise on this vital platform.

Known by his Wikipedia username Doc James, Heilman is an active participant in WikiProject Medicine and serves as a volunteer administrator on the site. His leadership roles include serving as the president of Wikimedia Canada from two thousand ten to two thousand thirteen and founding the Wiki Project Med Foundation, where he also held the presidency.

In addition to his administrative roles, Heilman established the Medicine Translation Task Force within WikiProject Medicine, further enhancing the accessibility of medical information. His commitment to the Wikimedia community was recognized when he was elected to the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees in June two thousand fifteen, a position he held until his removal in December of the same year. He was re-elected in May two thousand seventeen and served until November two thousand twenty-one.

Beyond his contributions to Wikipedia, Heilman is a clinical assistant professor at the University of British Columbia's department of emergency medicine. He also leads the emergency medicine department at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, British Columbia, where he resides.
