James Logan Jones Jr., born on December 19, 1943, is a distinguished retired four-star general of the United States Marine Corps and a prominent consultant in national security. His illustrious military career spanned four decades, culminating in his role as the 32nd Commandant of the Marine Corps from July nineteen ninety-nine to January two thousand three. Following this, he served as the Commander of the United States European Command and as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe from two thousand three to two thousand six.

After his retirement from the Marine Corps on February first, two thousand seven, Jones continued to influence national security and foreign policy. In two thousand seven, he chaired the Congressional Independent Commission on the Security Forces of Iraq, which assessed the capabilities of the Iraqi police and armed forces. His expertise led to his appointment as the special envoy for Middle East security by the U.S. Secretary of State in November of the same year.

Jones's leadership extended to the Atlantic Council, where he served as chairman from June two thousand seven until January two thousand nine. He then took on the significant role of the 21st United States National Security Advisor, a position he held until his resignation in November two thousand ten. In addition to his public service, Jones is the owner of consulting firms Ironhand Security LLC and Jones Group International LLC, further solidifying his impact in the field of security and defense.
