Jan Henne

Jan Margo Henne, born on August 11, 1947, is a celebrated American swimmer who made her mark in the world of competitive swimming as an Olympic champion and world record-holder. Known for her remarkable achievements at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, Henne secured four medals, including two golds, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.

During the Olympics, Henne swam the anchor leg for the victorious U.S. team in the women's 4×100-meter freestyle relay, where they set a new Olympic record of 4:02.5. Although she contributed to the gold medal-winning team in the preliminary heats of the 4×100-meter medley relay, she did not receive a medal for this event due to the rules in effect at the time.

Individually, Henne's prowess was evident as she clinched a gold medal in the women's 100-meter freestyle, along with a silver in the 200-meter freestyle and a bronze in the 200-meter individual medley. Following her Olympic success, she continued her swimming career at Arizona State University, where she competed for the Arizona State Sun Devils from 1968 to 1972 under the guidance of Head Women's Coach Mona Plummer.

At Arizona State, Henne was instrumental in her team's triumphs, contributing to AIAW national championships in 1969, 1970, and 1971. She also achieved individual glory by winning AIAW national championships in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard freestyle, and 4x100-yard freestyle relay in 1970.
