Janet Laurie Perlman, born on September nineteenth, nineteen fifty-four, is a distinguished Canadian animator and children's book author and illustrator. Her notable work includes the acclaimed short film, The Tender Tale of Cinderella Penguin, which garnered an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Short Film at the fifty-fourth Academy Awards and received a Parents' Choice Award. Over her career, Perlman has created thirteen short films that have collectively won sixty awards, showcasing her exceptional talent in animation.

In the 1980s, Perlman collaborated with her late husband, animation producer Derek Lamb, at the National Film Board of Canada. Together, they established their own production company, Lamb-Perlman Productions, where they produced innovative animation segments for renowned programs such as Sesame Street and NOVA. Their creative partnership extended to producing title sequences for the PBS series Mystery!, inspired by the artwork of Edward Gorey, and Perlman contributed as an animator for R. O. Blechman's adaptation of The Soldier's Tale for PBS's Great Performances.

Beyond her work in animation, Perlman has shared her expertise by teaching animation at prestigious institutions, including Harvard University, the Rhode Island School of Design, and Concordia University. Although she and Lamb divorced, they maintained a strong creative and business partnership until his passing in two thousand five. Currently, Perlman is a partner at Hulascope Studio, located in Montreal, where she continues to inspire and innovate in the field of animation.
