János vitéz is an epic poem crafted by the renowned Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi in the year eighteen forty-four. This remarkable work is distinguished by its extensive length, comprising three hundred seventy quatrains organized into twenty-seven chapters, showcasing Petőfi's masterful wordplay.

The narrative follows the journey of a young shepherd who is compelled to leave his pastoral home. Throughout his adventures, he confronts various villains, including Turks and witches, all while in pursuit of his true love. The poem draws significant inspiration from the legendary tales found in Homer's Odyssey, enriching its thematic depth.
