Jason Newsted, born on March fourth, nineteen sixty-three, is an influential American musician renowned for his role as the bassist of the iconic heavy metal band Metallica from nineteen eighty-six until two thousand one. His journey in music began with the thrash metal band Flotsam and Jetsam, where he honed his skills for the first five years of his career.
In October nineteen eighty-six, Newsted joined Metallica, stepping into the shoes of the late Cliff Burton, who tragically passed away the previous month. During his tenure with the band, he contributed to several landmark albums, including ...And Justice for All in nineteen eighty-eight, the self-titled Metallica in nineteen ninety-one, Load in nineteen ninety-six, Reload in nineteen ninety-seven, and Garage Inc. in nineteen ninety-eight. His departure from the group came in January two thousand one.
After leaving Metallica, Newsted continued to make his mark in the metal scene, becoming a member of bands such as Echobrain and Voivod, the latter under the pseudonym Jasonic.
