Javad Foroughi, born on September eleventh, nineteen seventy-nine, in Dehloran, Iran, is a distinguished sport shooter who made history at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Competing in both the Men's 10 metre air pistol and the Mixed 10 metre air pistol team events, Foroughi showcased his exceptional skills on the international stage.
During the men's 10 metre air pistol competition on July twenty-fourth, Foroughi qualified for the final, finishing fifth with a score of five hundred eighty. However, he turned the tide in the final round, where he initially led the competition, scoring one hundred one point zero in the first stage. He maintained his lead throughout, ultimately finishing first with a score of two hundred forty-four point eight, earning a gold medal and setting a new Olympic record.
This remarkable achievement marked Iran's first-ever medal in shooting at the Olympics. At the age of forty-one, Foroughi became the oldest medalist in Iranian Olympic history, surpassing the previous record held by Mahmoud Namjoo, who won bronze at thirty-eight in nineteen fifty-six.
In addition to his athletic prowess, Foroughi serves as a nurse in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and was deployed to Syria as part of the Corps' medical efforts in two thousand twelve and thirteen. His Olympic success, however, has drawn criticism from Iranian human rights activists, who have labeled him a member of a controversial organization.
