Jayson More, born on January twelfth, nineteen sixty-nine, in Souris, Manitoba, is a distinguished Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player. His journey in ice hockey began when he was drafted by the New York Rangers in the first round, tenth overall, during the nineteen eighty-seven NHL Entry Draft. More's early career saw him play four seasons in the Western Hockey League, showcasing his talent and determination.
At the age of nineteen, More made his professional debut with the International Hockey League's Denver Rangers in the nineteen eighty-eight to eighty-nine season. That same year, he also had a brief appearance in the NHL with the New York Rangers. His career took a turn when he was traded to the Minnesota North Stars early in the nineteen eighty-nine to ninety season, where he spent a year before moving to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for goaltender Brian Hayward.
Although More never played a game for the Canadiens, he continued to develop his skills with the AHL's Fredericton Canadiens. His career took another significant step when he was selected second overall by the San Jose Sharks in the nineteen ninety-one NHL Expansion Draft. Over five seasons with the Sharks, he established himself as a reliable player before returning to the New York Rangers in a trade that brought Marty McSorley to San Jose.
More's second stint with the Rangers was short-lived, as he played only fourteen games before being traded to the Phoenix Coyotes. His career faced a tragic setback at the age of twenty-eight when he suffered a career-ending injury while playing for the Nashville Predators during the nineteen ninety-eight to ninety-nine season. Throughout his NHL career, More participated in four hundred six games, scoring eighteen goals and providing fifty-four assists, along with six assists in thirty-one Stanley Cup playoff games.
In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Jayson More was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame in two thousand eleven, celebrating his legacy as both a player and a coach.
