However, his perseverance paid off when he was elected in the general election of nineteen sixty-two, and he went on to secure re-election five times, representing the riding of Restigouche from nineteen sixty-eight onward.

In the wake of the nineteen sixty-eight election, Dubé was appointed to the Cabinet of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, taking on the role of Minister of Veterans Affairs. His contributions to the government continued as he transitioned to the position of Minister of Public Works in nineteen seventy-two. Despite his successes, Dubé was dropped from the Cabinet after the nineteen seventy-four election and subsequently left Parliament the following year.

Following his departure from political life, Dubé was appointed as a judge to the Federal Court of Canada, a prestigious role he held until his retirement in two thousand one.
