Jean Tremblay

Jean Tremblay, born on November twenty-ninth, nineteen forty-eight, is a prominent Canadian lawyer and politician hailing from the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec. He served as the mayor of Saguenay from two thousand two to two thousand seventeen, following his tenure as mayor of Chicoutimi starting in nineteen ninety-six. Tremblay's leadership was marked by his commitment to local governance and community engagement.

His tenure as mayor garnered international attention, particularly due to his staunch defense of maintaining Catholic prayers before city council meetings. This issue reached the Canadian Supreme Court, which ultimately ruled against the city in the case of Mouvement laïque québécois v Saguenay (City) in two thousand fifteen.

As the first magistrate of the newly formed city of Saguenay after municipal reorganizations in Quebec, Tremblay was re-elected multiple times, achieving remarkable support from the electorate: seventy-two percent in November two thousand five, seventy-eight percent in November two thousand nine, and sixty-three percent in two thousand thirteen. His leadership style was characterized by innovative initiatives, including the implementation of the City Stat Performance Strategy in two thousand eight, making him the first mayor in Quebec to adopt such a management approach.

Tremblay was also instrumental in enhancing the region's tourism by attracting more cruise ships and addressing tax recovery from private hydroelectric plants. He established the position of city ombudsman and initiated the city's first website, embracing modern communication methods by utilizing social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
