Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, born on April seventh, nineteen seventy-three, is a prominent Dutch politician and diplomat. She has been serving as the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon since May twenty twenty-four, representing the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD).
Her political career began with her election as a Member of the European Parliament for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe group (ALDE) following the European Parliament election in two thousand four. Hennis-Plasschaert was reelected in two thousand nine, showcasing her growing influence in European politics.
In June two thousand ten, she transitioned to national politics, becoming a member of the House of Representatives after the general election. On the same day, she resigned from her position in the European Parliament. Her political journey continued as she was appointed Minister of Defence in the Second Rutte cabinet after the election of two thousand twelve, a role she held until her resignation in October two thousand seventeen.
After a brief hiatus, Hennis-Plasschaert returned to the House of Representatives in March two thousand seventeen, serving until September the following year. Her expertise in international relations was further recognized when she was appointed as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq in November two thousand eighteen.
