Jearl Miles Clark, born on September fourth, nineteen sixty-six, is a distinguished American athlete renowned for her prowess in middle-distance running and sprinting, particularly in the 400 and 800 meters. She etched her name in history by setting the American record in the women's 800 meters with an impressive time of one minute fifty-six point forty seconds.
Her Olympic journey began at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, where she showcased her talent in the 4 × 400 meters relay, earning a silver medal alongside her teammates Natasha Kaiser, Gwen Torrence, and Rochelle Stevens. Miles Clark continued to excel, returning to the Olympic stage in nineteen ninety-six in Atlanta, where she and her team, including Rochelle Stevens, Maicel Malone, and Kim Graham, clinched the gold medal in the same event.
In the year two thousand, she made her third Olympic appearance in Sydney, Australia, once again securing gold in the 4 × 400 meters relay with teammates Monique Hennagan, Marion Jones, and LaTasha Colander-Richardson. Although this medal was initially stripped due to doping admissions by Marion Jones, Miles Clark and her fellow team members successfully appealed the decision in July twenty-ten, allowing them to retain their accolades.
Off the track, Jearl is married to J. J. Clark, who is the brother of fellow Olympians Joetta and Hazel Clark. The couple resides in California with their son, Jorell. Jearl has also contributed to the sport as a volunteer track and field coach at the University of Connecticut, where her husband serves as the head coach. In recognition of her remarkable achievements, she was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in twenty-ten.
