Jeff Hanneman

Jeff Hanneman, born on January 31, 1964, in Long Beach, California, was a pivotal figure in the world of heavy metal music. As a founding member and co-lead guitarist of the iconic thrash metal band Slayer, he made an indelible mark on the genre. Hanneman's contributions to Slayer were not limited to his guitar work; he was also a prolific songwriter, crafting both music and lyrics for every album until his untimely death in 2013.

From a young age, Hanneman was immersed in the sounds of heavy metal and hardcore punk, which would later influence his distinctive style. In 1981, while working as a telemarketer, he crossed paths with Kerry King, and together they formed Slayer. Hanneman's songwriting prowess is evident in some of the band's most celebrated tracks, including 'Angel of Death,' 'Raining Blood,' and 'Die by the Sword.' His personal favorite album, 'Reign in Blood,' showcases his exceptional talent and creativity.

Hanneman's guitar riffs, inspired by legendary bands such as Led Zeppelin, Wasted Youth, and Iron Maiden, have been hailed as some of the most recognizable in metal history. His dual guitar solos with King received widespread acclaim, further solidifying Slayer's reputation in the music industry. In early 2011, Hanneman faced a serious health crisis due to necrotizing fasciitis, which led to his temporary replacement on Slayer's tours by guitarists like Gary Holt. Sadly, he passed away from liver failure on May 2, 2013, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence musicians and fans alike.
