She was recognized as the national player of the year and played a pivotal role in leading her team to victory in the NCAA national championship in 1990. Following her successful college tenure, she transitioned to professional basketball, where she played from 1990 to 2003, including five seasons in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).

After her playing career, Azzi took on the role of head coach for the University of San Francisco women's basketball team from 2010 to 2016, where she continued to inspire and develop young athletes.
