Gillis gained significant recognition as a contestant on Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's CBC TV reality show, Over the Rainbow. This competition sought to cast the leading role of Dorothy Gale in Lloyd Webber's anticipated production of The Wizard of Oz in Toronto, Ontario. As the youngest aspiring singer in the competition, she proudly represented her home province of British Columbia and achieved the remarkable distinction of being named the sixth-best musical theatre performer in all of Canada.
