Jenny Kwan

Jenny Kwan, born on January first, nineteen sixty-seven, is a prominent Canadian politician and community advocate, currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Vancouver East. A dedicated member of the New Democratic Party (NDP), she made her mark in the House of Commons after being elected in two thousand fifteen.

Before her tenure in federal politics, Kwan was a significant figure in British Columbia's political landscape. From nineteen ninety-six to two thousand fifteen, she represented Vancouver-Mount Pleasant as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) with the BC NDP. Notably, she and Liberal MLA Ida Chong were the first Chinese-Canadian members to serve in the BC legislature, breaking new ground for representation.

Kwan's political journey began in nineteen ninety-three when she was elected to the Vancouver City Council. Her commitment to public service was further exemplified when she became the province's first Chinese-Canadian cabinet minister, holding office from nineteen ninety-eight to two thousand one.
