In 2001, he made a significant move to Sochaux, where he spent four years in the youth academy. His professional debut came in the 2004–05 season, making him the youngest player in Ligue 1 history at that time. During his tenure at Sochaux, he also experienced European competition for the first time in the UEFA Cup.
