His ascent in the racing world continued as he graduated to junior formulae in two thousand three, where he clinched his first title in the Belgian Formula Renault series.

In two thousand seven, d'Ambrosio made a significant mark by winning the inaugural championship of the International Formula Master. His career progressed further as he entered the GP2 Series in two thousand eight with DAMS, where he consistently achieved podium finishes and notably finished as the runner-up to Kamui Kobayashi in the Asia Series.

Transitioning to Formula One, d'Ambrosio drove for Marussia Virgin Racing and Lotus F1 during the two thousand eleven and two thousand twelve seasons.
