Jerry Lawler

Jerry O'Neil Lawler, born on November 29, 1949, is a celebrated figure in the world of professional wrestling, known affectionately as Jerry "the King" Lawler. His journey began in the vibrant wrestling scene of Memphis, Tennessee, during the 1970s, where he quickly ascended to become the top star of the Continental Wrestling Association (CWA). Lawler's impressive career is marked by an astounding fifty-seven reigns as the AWA Southern Heavyweight Champion and a single reign as the CWA World Heavyweight Champion.

One of the defining moments of Lawler's career came from his infamous feud with comedian Andy Kaufman, which captivated audiences and garnered national attention, particularly during an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman in 1982. This rivalry not only showcased Lawler's wrestling prowess but also his ability to engage with mainstream culture, further solidifying his status in the industry.

In 1992, Lawler made a significant move to the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE), where he transitioned into a role as a color commentator while still occasionally stepping into the ring. Although he never captured a championship in WWE, he became known for his high-profile feuds, notably with Bret Hart, and even challenged The Miz for the WWE Championship in 2011 at the age of sixty-one.
