Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Jerry Rawlings

Jerry Rawlings, born on June twenty-second, nineteen forty-seven, was a prominent Ghanaian military officer, aviator, and politician. He first came to power in Ghana following a coup d'état in nineteen seventy-nine, where he served briefly before transitioning to a military regime that lasted until nineteen ninety-three. His leadership spanned two decades, making him the longest-serving leader in Ghana's history, presiding over the nation for a total of nineteen years.

Rawlings initially attempted a coup on May fifteenth, nineteen seventy-nine, just weeks before scheduled democratic elections. After a brief period of civilian governance, he orchestrated another coup on December thirty-first, nineteen eighty-one, becoming the chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC). His military rule laid the groundwork for significant political changes in Ghana.

In nineteen ninety-two, Rawlings resigned from the military and founded the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He successfully ran for president in that year's elections, becoming the first president of Ghana's Fourth Republic. His presidency was marked by notable achievements, including brokering a ceasefire during the First Liberian Civil War in nineteen ninety-five. He was re-elected in nineteen ninety-six, serving a total of two terms in office.

After reaching the constitutional limit of two terms, Rawlings endorsed his vice-president, John Atta Mills, as a candidate in the two thousand elections, although Mills did not win. Following his presidency, Rawlings continued to contribute to international diplomacy, serving as the African Union envoy to Somalia. He passed away in two thousand twenty at the age of seventy-three and was honored with a state funeral.
