Jerry Unser Jr.

Jeremy Michael Unser Jr., born on November 15, 1932, was a talented American racecar driver known for his remarkable contributions to motorsport. He made his mark as the 1957 USAC Stock Car champion, showcasing his skills and determination on the track.

As the first member of the Unser family to compete at the prestigious Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Jerry's legacy began to take shape. In his only appearance at the Indianapolis 500 in 1958, he faced a harrowing experience when he was involved in a massive thirteen-car pileup on the first lap, miraculously emerging unscathed after flying over the turn three wall.

Tragically, Jerry's promising career was cut short when he died in a practice crash just before the 1959 Indianapolis 500. He left behind a loving family, including his widow, Jeanne Unser, and two sons, Jerry and Johnny Unser, who would continue the family's racing legacy.

The Unser family is renowned in the world of racing, with Jerry's brothers Al and Bobby, along with his nephew Al Jr., having won the Indianapolis 500. His son Johnny and nephew Robby have also made their mark by competing in this iconic race, ensuring that the Unser name remains synonymous with excellence in motorsport.
