Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Jerzy Szmajdziński

Jerzy Szmajdziński, born on April ninth, nineteen fifty-two, was a prominent Polish politician known for his significant contributions to the country's political landscape. He served as the Deputy Marshal of the Polish Sejm and held the esteemed position of Minister of National Defence from October nineteenth, two thousand one, until two thousand five. His political journey began with his graduation from the Wrocław University of Economics, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors.

In the late twentieth century, Szmajdziński emerged as an influential figure within the Union of Socialist Youth and the Polish Socialist Youth Union, eventually becoming the chairman of the latter from nineteen eighty-six to nineteen eighty-nine. His political affiliations included a long-standing membership in the Polish United Workers' Party from nineteen seventy-three until its dissolution in nineteen ninety. Following this period, he took on a leadership role in the Social Democracy of the Republic of Poland and became the deputy chairman of the Democratic Left Alliance in December nineteen ninety-nine.

Szmajdziński's political career in the Sejm began in nineteen ninety, where he made notable contributions as chairman of the National Defense Committee during his second term and as deputy chairman in his third term. His electoral success continued when he was re-elected to the Sejm on September twenty-fifth, two thousand five, securing over twenty thousand votes in the Legnica district as a candidate from the SLD list.

In December two thousand nine, he was selected as the Democratic Left Alliance's candidate for the presidential elections in two thousand ten, garnering eleven percent of the votes in pre-election polls. Tragically, Szmajdziński's life was cut short when he died in a plane crash on April tenth, two thousand ten, just a day after celebrating his fifty-eight birthday, alongside President Lech Kaczyński and ninety-four others.
