Jesse Jackson Jr.

Jesse Louis Jackson Jr., born on March 11, 1965, is a notable American figure who served as a U.S. representative for Illinois's 2nd congressional district from 1995 until 2012. A member of the Democratic Party, Jackson Jr. was known for his political engagement and advocacy during his tenure.

In October 2012, Jackson Jr. faced scrutiny for financial improprieties, including the misuse of campaign funds. This investigation culminated in his resignation from Congress on November 21, 2012, as he cited ongoing mental and physical health challenges, notably bipolar disorder and gastrointestinal issues.

On February 8, 2013, Jackson Jr. publicly acknowledged his violation of federal campaign laws, admitting to using campaign funds for personal expenses. He subsequently pleaded guilty to one count of wire and mail fraud on February 20, 2013, leading to a sentence of thirty months in federal prison, which he began serving shortly thereafter.

After his release on March 26, 2015, Jackson Jr. sought to re-enter the political arena. In 2026, he ran for his former congressional seat but finished second in the Democratic primary to Donna Miller. Despite efforts from his father, Jesse Jackson Sr., and other Democratic leaders to secure a presidential pardon from Joe Biden, the request was ultimately denied.
