Jim Risch, born on May third, nineteen forty-three, is a prominent American lawyer and politician who has made significant contributions to the state of Idaho. He has served as the junior United States senator from Idaho since two thousand nine, representing the Republican Party. His political journey began in the early sixties when he moved from Milwaukee to Idaho, where he would eventually establish a notable career in public service.

Risch graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry in nineteen sixty-five and later earned his Juris Doctor in nineteen sixty-eight. His career in law began with a teaching position in criminal law at Boise State University, followed by his election as Ada County prosecuting attorney in nineteen seventy. Following the resignation of Governor Dirk Kempthorne in May two thousand six, Risch completed Kempthorne's term and served as lieutenant governor under Butch Otter from two thousand seven to two thousand nine.
