Jim Sensenbrenner

Frank James Sensenbrenner Jr., born on June 14, 1943, is a distinguished American politician and lawyer who dedicated over four decades to public service. He represented Wisconsin's 5th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 1979 until 2021, initially serving in what was numbered as the 9th district until a reorganization in 2003. A prominent member of the Republican Party, Sensenbrenner's legislative career is marked by significant leadership roles.

Throughout his tenure, Sensenbrenner held influential positions, including chairman of the House Science Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. His leadership was particularly notable during his six-year term as chairman, which concluded when the Republicans lost control of the House. Following this shift, he was not selected as the ranking minority member of the Judiciary Committee, a role that went to Lamar S. Smith of Texas.

From 2007 to 2011, he served as the ranking Republican on the House Select Committee for Energy Independence and Global Warming, a committee that was later abolished after the Republicans regained control of the House. At the time of his retirement, Sensenbrenner was recognized as the most senior member of the Wisconsin delegation and the second most senior member in the entire House of Representatives.
