Jo Bonner

Josiah Robins Bonner Jr., born on November 19, 1959, is a distinguished American academic administrator and former politician. He currently holds the position of the fourth president of the University of South Alabama, a role he officially assumed in December 2021.

Before his tenure in academia, Bonner served as the U.S. representative for Alabama's 1st congressional district from 2003 to 2013. A member of the Republican Party, he made significant contributions during his time in Congress, advocating for various issues pertinent to his constituents.

In a pivotal career shift, Bonner resigned from Congress on August 2, 2013, to accept a position with the University of Alabama. His commitment to public service continued as he took on the role of Chief of Staff to Alabama governor Kay Ivey from 2019 to 2021, further solidifying his influence in state governance.
