Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Joan Coromines

Joan Coromines, born on March twenty-first, nineteen oh five, was a distinguished linguist and philologist whose scholarly work significantly advanced the understanding of Catalan, Spanish, and other Romance languages.

His most notable contributions include the comprehensive 'Diccionario crítico etimológico de la lengua castellana,' published between nineteen fifty-four and nineteen fifty-seven in four volumes. This work laid the foundation for his etymological dictionary of Spanish, which also saw an abridged version released in nineteen sixty-one.

Coromines further enriched the field with the 'Diccionari etimològic i complementari de la llengua catalana,' a nine-volume exploration into the origins of Catalan words. Additionally, he documented place and personal names across Catalan-speaking regions in the 'Onomasticon Cataloniae,' an eight-volume series.

In collaboration with José Antonio Pascual, he produced the 'Diccionario crítico etimológico castellano e hispánico,' recognized as the most thorough etymological dictionary of Spanish available today. His research also included significant insights into the geographical spread of the Basque language during the early Middle Ages, alongside fellow linguist Koldo Mitxelena.
