Joan Llaneras

Joan Llaneras, born on May seventeenth, nineteen sixty-nine, is a distinguished former Spanish track cyclist renowned for his exceptional achievements in the points race and madison events. His cycling journey began on the road with the ONCE professional cycling team, but he soon shifted his focus to track cycling, where he would leave an indelible mark.

Throughout his illustrious career, Llaneras secured four world championships in the points race and triumphed three times in the madison. His Olympic prowess is equally impressive, as he clinched gold medals at the two thousand Summer Olympics in Sydney and the two thousand eight Beijing Olympics, solidifying his status as a double Olympic champion.

In November two thousand six, Llaneras faced a tragic moment when his teammate Isaac Gálvez suffered a fatal accident during the Six Days of Ghent racing circuit. This incident led Llaneras to contemplate retirement from cycling. However, he later expressed his determination to continue, stating that the track was his life and dream.

Returning to competition in two thousand seven, Llaneras partnered with Antonio Tauler to secure a silver medal in the madison at the two thousand eight Olympics, adding to his impressive tally of Olympic medals, which includes two gold and two silver. This achievement made him the Spaniard with the most Olympic medals in history. Following the Beijing Olympics, Llaneras decided to retire, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in track cycling.
