Joan Wenzel

Joan Wenzel, born on November twenty-fourth, nineteen fifty-three, is a distinguished retired Canadian middle-distance runner known for her remarkable achievements in athletics.

Wenzel made her mark on the international stage by competing in the women's 800 metres at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Her journey to the Olympics was not without challenges, as she faced a significant setback shortly after securing a third-place finish in the 800m at the 1975 Pan American Games.

Following her Pan American success, Wenzel tested positive for ephedrine, a result of her cold medication, which led to an initial life ban imposed by the IAAF. However, in a turn of events, the ban was lifted the following April, allowing her to return to competitive athletics.

Wenzel's resilience and determination were evident as she prepared for the 1976 Olympics, showcasing her unwavering spirit and commitment to her sport.
