Job Cohen, born on October eighteenth, nineteen forty-seven, is a distinguished Dutch jurist and politician, renowned for his impactful tenure as Mayor of Amsterdam from two thousand one to two thousand ten. His academic journey began at the University of Groningen, where he earned a Master of Laws degree, followed by a Doctor of Law in Jurisprudence after completing his thesis at Leiden University.

Before entering the political arena, Cohen served as a researcher and later as a professor of jurisprudence at the State University of Limburg, where he also held the position of rector magnificus from January nineteen ninety-one until June nineteen ninety-three. His political career took off when he was appointed State Secretary for Education and Sciences in the Cabinet Lubbers III in June nineteen ninety-three, although he chose not to run in the subsequent elections.

In June nineteen ninety-five, Cohen was elected to the Senate, where he became a prominent spokesperson for Justice, Education, and Science. His political journey continued as he was appointed State Secretary for Justice in the Cabinet Kok II in August nineteen ninety-eight. Following a successful mayoral nomination in December two thousand, he led Amsterdam until his resignation in March two thousand ten.

After stepping down as Mayor, Cohen was selected as the Leader of the Labour Party in April two thousand ten, serving until February two thousand twelve.
