Joe Hisaishi

Joe Hisaishi, born Mamoru Fujisawa on December 6, 1950, is a renowned Japanese composer, pianist, and conductor. With a prolific career that began in 1981, he has created over one hundred film scores and solo albums, showcasing his versatility across various musical genres, including minimalist, experimental electronic, Western classical, and Japanese classical.

Hisaishi's collaboration with esteemed director and animator Hayao Miyazaki began in 1984, leading to a remarkable partnership where he composed music for nearly all of Miyazaki's films. His contributions to cinema extend beyond animation; he is also celebrated for his work with filmmaker 'Beat' Takeshi Kitano, providing scores for notable films such as A Scene at the Sea, Sonatine, and Hana-bi.

In addition to his film work, Hisaishi has made significant contributions to the world of video games, particularly with the Ni no Kuni series. His score for the Oscar-winning film Departures in 2008 further solidified his status as a leading figure in contemporary music.
