Joe Slovo

Joe Slovo, born on May twenty-third, nineteen twenty-six, was a prominent South African politician and anti-apartheid activist. As a dedicated Marxist-Leninist, he played a crucial role in the South African Communist Party (SACP) and was a leading figure in the African National Congress (ANC). His commitment to the struggle against apartheid was further exemplified through his leadership of the ANC's military wing, uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK).

In June nineteen fifty-five, Slovo was a delegate at the historic Congress of the People, where the Freedom Charter was drafted. His activism led to his imprisonment for six months in nineteen sixty, after which he emerged as a key leader of uMkhonto we Sizwe. From nineteen sixty-three until nineteen ninety, he lived in exile, orchestrating operations against the apartheid regime from various countries, including the United Kingdom, Angola, Mozambique, and Zambia.
