Joey Castillo, born on March 30, 1966, is a prominent American musician renowned for his dynamic drumming skills. He gained significant recognition as the drummer for the stoner rock band Queens of the Stone Age from 2002 to 2012, contributing to their distinctive sound during a pivotal era in the band's history.
Before his tenure with Queens of the Stone Age, Castillo was the drummer for Danzig from 1994 to 2002, where he recorded three studio albums. His journey with Queens began as he joined the band to support their breakthrough album, Songs for the Deaf. During his time with them, he recorded two albums, Lullabies to Paralyze in 2005 and Era Vulgaris in 2007, and contributed to half of ...Like Clockwork in 2013 before parting ways with the band.
After leaving Queens of the Stone Age and the Eagles of Death Metal in 2012, Castillo continued to make waves in the music scene. He joined California Breed, taking over for founding member Jason Bonham, and toured with Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts until the singer's untimely death in 2015. His collaborations extend to supergroups like Bloodclot, Royale Daemons, and the historic punk band Bl'ast, showcasing his versatility and passion for music.
In addition to these projects, Castillo is currently a member of Circle Jerks, The Bronx, Zakk Sabbath, and Sugartooth. In 2023, he teamed up with Tim Armstrong and Jesse Michaels to form the band DOOM Regulator, further solidifying his status as a prolific figure in the rock and punk music scenes.
