Adam Birch, widely recognized by his ring name Joey Mercury, was born on July 18, 1979. An accomplished American professional wrestler, producer, trainer, and wrestling agent, he has made significant contributions to the world of wrestling, particularly during his time with WWE and Ring of Honor.
Birch's wrestling journey began in October 1996 when he debuted under the name Joey Matthews in ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling). His early career saw him competing in the Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation (MEWF), where he formed a successful tag team with Christian York, capturing the MEWF Tag Team Championship. Throughout the late 1990s, Birch showcased his talent across various independent promotions, earning accolades in both singles and tag team competitions.
His time at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) was pivotal, as he teamed up with Johnny Nitro to win the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship. This partnership evolved into the stable MNM, which made a significant impact upon their debut on the SmackDown! roster in April 2005, culminating in a WWE Tag Team Championship victory. However, after their third reign ended in May 2006, internal conflicts led to the dissolution of the faction, although they briefly reunited in November 2006 before Birch's release in March 2007.
Post-WWE, Birch continued to pursue his passion for wrestling, participating in various independent promotions, including Ring of Honor. In March 2008, he returned to OVW, where he claimed the OVW Television Championship. Although he announced his retirement in October 2008 due to an injury, he made a comeback in 2010, working as a producer for WWE and briefly returning to the ring as part of CM Punk's Straight Edge Society. In 2014, he re-emerged on television alongside Jamie Noble as J&J Security, serving as an on-screen security guard for WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins within The Authority faction.
