Johann Daniel Titius

Johann Daniel Titius, born on January second, seventeen twenty-nine, in Konitz, Royal Prussia, was a distinguished German astronomer and a prominent professor at the University of Wittenberg. His early life was shaped by his father, Jakob Tietz, a merchant and council member, and his mother, Maria Dorothea, née Hanow. Originally named Johann Tietz, he adopted the Latinized surname Titius upon becoming a university professor, a common practice in the eighteenth century.

Titius received his education in Danzig (now Gdańsk) before pursuing higher studies at the University of Leipzig from seventeen forty-nine to seventeen fifty-two. His academic journey laid the foundation for a career that would significantly contribute to the fields of astronomy, physics, mathematics, biology, and botany.
