Johannes Bugenhagen

Johannes Bugenhagen, born on June twenty-fourth, fourteen eighty-five, was a pivotal figure in the Protestant Reformation, particularly in the Duchy of Pomerania and Denmark during the sixteenth century. Known affectionately as Doctor Pomeranus by his contemporary Martin Luther, Bugenhagen was a distinguished German theologian and Lutheran priest whose influence extended far beyond his immediate surroundings.

His contributions to the translation of theological principles into social legislation were most notably realized through his efforts, which built upon the foundational work of Karlstadt and Luther. Bugenhagen's major accomplishments included the organization of Lutheran churches across Northern Germany and Scandinavia, earning him the title of the 'Second Apostle of the North' for his extensive work in these regions.

In addition to his reformative endeavors, Bugenhagen served as the pastor to Martin Luther at St. Mary's Church in Wittenberg, a role that further solidified his importance in the Reformation movement. His legacy is commemorated in the Calendar of Saints of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, where he is honored as a pastor on April twentieth.
