John Cornyn

John Cornyn, born on February second, nineteen fifty-two, is a prominent American politician and former judge, currently serving as the senior United States senator from Texas. A member of the Republican Party, he has held this esteemed position since two thousand two, showcasing a long-standing commitment to public service.

Raised in Houston, Cornyn pursued higher education at Trinity University, followed by law degrees from St. Mary's University School of Law and the University of Virginia School of Law. His legal career began on the Texas's 37th District Court, where he served as a judge from nineteen eighty-five to nineteen ninety-one. He then became an associate justice of the Texas Supreme Court from nineteen ninety-one to nineteen ninety-seven, and later, he was the Attorney General of Texas from nineteen ninety-nine until two thousand two.

Since his election to the U.S. Senate, Cornyn has played a significant role in shaping legislation. He chaired the National Republican Senatorial Committee from two thousand nine to two thousand thirteen and served as the Senate Republican whip from two thousand thirteen to two thousand nineteen. Known for his ability to broker deals, he was the lead Republican negotiator for the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, a landmark piece of federal gun control legislation, and supported reforms to the Electoral Count Act following the events of January sixth, two thousand twenty-one.
