John Cullen

John Cullen, born on August second, nineteen sixty-four, is a distinguished Canadian former professional ice hockey player who made his mark as a centre in the National Hockey League (NHL) for a decade. His journey began at Boston University, where he excelled in college ice hockey, ultimately becoming the school's all-time leading scorer.

After being selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the nineteen eighty-six NHL supplemental draft, Cullen did not receive a contract offer. Instead, he embarked on his professional career with the Flint Spirits of the International Hockey League (IHL) during the nineteen eighty-seven to eighty-eight season. His remarkable performance earned him the titles of co-Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player, as he led the league in scoring.

Tragically, Cullen's career faced a significant challenge in nineteen ninety-seven when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Following an eighteen-month battle with the disease, he made a courageous attempt at a comeback in nineteen ninety-eight, which was recognized by the NHL with the prestigious Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. He played in two NHL All-Star Games throughout his career.

After retiring from professional play, Cullen transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning for one year. Later, he joined his brother in the car dealership business, where he briefly operated his own dealership until the automotive industry crisis of two thousand eight to ten forced its closure.
