John Dearden

Prior to his role in Detroit, he was the Bishop of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from nineteen fifty to nineteen fifty-eight, where he earned the nickname 'Iron John' due to his stern administrative style.

During his time in Pittsburgh, Dearden was known for his strong leadership and commitment to the Church's mission. His tenure was marked by a focus on community engagement and social justice, which laid the groundwork for his later work in Detroit.
