John Havlicek

John Havlicek, born on April 8, 1940, was a legendary American basketball player who dedicated his entire professional career to the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association (NBA). A dynamic swingman, Havlicek showcased his talents at Ohio State University, where he played from 1959 to 1962 and contributed to the team's NCAA championship victory in 1960.

Selected by the Celtics in the 1962 NBA draft, Havlicek quickly became a cornerstone of the franchise, playing until his retirement in 1978. Over his illustrious career, he earned the distinction of being a thirteen-time NBA All-Star and was recognized on the All-NBA First Team four times, alongside seven selections to the All-NBA Second Team. His defensive prowess was equally impressive, as he was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team five times and the Second Team three times.

Havlicek's contributions to the Celtics were monumental, leading the team to eight NBA championships and achieving an unparalleled 8–0 record in NBA Finals series. He is perhaps best remembered for his iconic steal in Game Seven of the 1965 Eastern Conference Finals, a moment that epitomized his relentless hustle and determination. Serving as the Celtics' captain from 1969 to 1978, he was named NBA Finals MVP in 1974, solidifying his legacy as one of the game's greats.

Upon his retirement, Havlicek's number seventeen jersey was retired by the Celtics, a fitting tribute to his impact on the franchise. In recognition of his outstanding career, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1984, ensuring that his contributions to the sport would never be forgotten.
