John Joseph Lynch, born on February sixth, eighteen sixteen, was a prominent Irish Catholic prelate whose influence extended significantly within the church. He served as the third Bishop of Toronto from eighteen sixty to eighteen seventy and later became the first Archbishop of Toronto, a position he held from eighteen seventy to eighteen eighty-eight.
Throughout his tenure, Lynch was instrumental in the establishment of Our Lady of Angels Seminary in eighteen fifty-six, which is now known as Niagara University. His commitment to education and the formation of clergy was a hallmark of his leadership.
